Singing Live with Michael Ball on BBC Radio 2
On Armistice day this year, myself, Katie and Emily (of The D-Day Darlings) headed off to Wogan House to perform live on BBC Radio 2. It was an incredible experience, an absolute honour to sing two of the songs from our recent album and to be interviewed live in the studio by Michael Ball OBE, especially on this most important day, 11th November 2018 when commemorations were held globally to mark the centenary of the World War One Armistice.
Just after the poignant two-minute silence, we sang ‘I’ll Remember You’, a very special, original song written (by Katie and the producer of our album, Tim Woodcock) to commemorate the fallen heroes of war. We were accompanied beautifully on the day by piano and a string quartet (*) and it felt like a dream; it was particularly moving and a moment I will always treasure.
Alongside his singing career, Michael Ball has been presenting on BBC Radio 2 since 2008, so we were in very capable hands for a lovely interview. Next, we performed our new version of ‘Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree’ with Michael as our guest vocalist (we’d had a quick rehearsal with him beforehand) and he joined us with aplomb! It was great fun and a special day all round. Not only was it an absolute pleasure to sing with Michael but what an absolute honour to be afforded this opportunity to perform on such a special occasion and to speak about a topic so close to our hearts.
